App Metering: Tracking Application Installs and Licence Usage
App Metering in Eido allows you to monitor how applications are distributed across your environment, including version breakdowns, device installs, and licence usage.
It also enables you to define thresholds so that application usage can be surfaced using RAG (Red/Amber/Green) status, helping you quickly identify potential issues such as over-utilisation.
What is App Metering
App Metering is a feature that provides deeper insight into how an application is used across your environment.
When enabled, it allows you to:
view application versions in use
see how many devices are running each version
track licence usage percentage
apply thresholds to visualise usage status (RAG)
This builds on the Apps page by adding both visibility and control over application usage.
Enabling App Metering
App Metering is configured per application.
To enable it:
Navigate to Apps
Select an application from the list
Click App Metering
Toggle Enable App Metering
Click Save
Once enabled, Eido will begin tracking version and usage data for that application.
Licence Usage and Thresholds
App Metering allows you to track licence usage % for an application.
You can define thresholds that determine how usage is displayed:
Green - usage is within acceptable limits
Amber - usage is approaching the defined threshold
Red - usage exceeds the defined threshold
This allows you to quickly identify applications that may require action, such as licence optimisation or compliance review.
Why Use App Metering
App Metering helps you move beyond visibility into actionable insight.
It enables you to:
monitor licence usage across applications
identify over- or under-utilised licences
track version adoption
support licence optimisation and compliance
prioritise action using RAG status
